Shopping list, spending log and food budget
The shopping list ordered by store section, with amounts, the meals each item is for and an already-have column; a weekly spending log that starts with your baseline week; and the weekly food budget you set. Everything you type stays in this browser.
For a first pass, the list and one row in spending are essential: Your starting week logs the baseline week's total, and Shopping and budget adds the first planned week. The budget can wait until at least two weeks are logged, because it is set from your own spending first.
Shopping list
Made from the plan (Shopping and budget). Shop your kitchen first: tick already have for anything in the inventory, and write the meals each fresh item is for.
Food spending by week
One row per week (Your starting week, Shopping and budget and Review and adjust). Count every food purchase, including coffee, vending and food ordered in.
Weekly food budget
The figure your household chose (Shopping and budget). It is yours to set; the USDA plans are a reference, not a recommendation.
How to use these sheets
- Shop your kitchen first. Tick already have for anything the inventory shows, so the list holds only what you need to buy.
- Amount and meals. Write the amount needed (from the buy calculator or the recipe) and how many meals each fresh item is for. Unit price is optional; the cost column totals the trip.
- Every food purchase counts. Spending takes groceries and food eaten out or ordered in, week by week, including coffee and vending.
- The budget is yours. Write how it was set. The USDA plans on the budget reference are for comparison only.
Jordan (fictional) ticks already have for rice, eggs and black beans, writes "1.5 lb, for 5 meals" beside the chicken thighs, and logs the baseline week as $94 in groceries and $71 ordered in. The planned week is logged in Review and adjust.
The list and the log record what you planned and spent. They do not promise that a list or a budget lowers spending, and this manual gives no financial advice. A lower unit price helps only if the food is eaten.
